You would buy the wrong size suit?

Updated: Sep 29

Imagine walking into a tailor’s shop.

You tell the tailor you’re looking for a suit.

Instead of measuring you, he reaches behind him, grabs the first suit he sees, and says:

“This one worked for the last guy.”

You try it on.

The sleeves are too long. The shoulders don’t sit right. The waist is too loose.

You point it out.

He shrugs.

“Give it time. It’ll work.”

You probably wouldn’t buy the suit.

So why do businesses accept the same approach when it comes to their marketing?

The problem isn’t the suit.

It wasn’t made for you.

That’s the problem with one-size-fits-all marketing.

Too often, businesses are handed the same playbook because it worked somewhere else.

Post more.

Run ads.

Follow the trends.

Increase engagement.

Repeat.

But marketing isn’t about finding something that worked for someone.

It’s about finding what works for you.

Every business has a different story, audience, identity, challenge, and ambition. What one company needs to grow might be completely irrelevant to another.

And that’s why the first question shouldn’t be:

“What marketing service do you need?”

It should be:

“What does your business need?”

That shift changes everything.

When the problem is understood first, the strategy becomes intentional. Marketing stops being something a business does simply because it feels like it should be doing it.

Every decision has a purpose.

The strategy fits the business not the other way around.

Marketing shouldn’t force businesses into predetermined formulas. It should understand where a business stands, where it wants to go, and create an approach that makes sense for the journey.

The goal isn’t to make every business look the same.

It’s to help every business become more of what makes it different.

After all, a good tailor doesn’t make everyone the same suit.

They make your suit fit.

And that’s how marketing should work.

No templates. No assumptions. No one-size-fits-all.

Just a strategy built around the business it’s meant to serve.
