It can be costly to be a twin

Updated: Sep 29

Growing up, being a twin sounds like having a built-in best friend.

Someone who looks like you.

Someone who understands you.

Someone who is always there.

It sounds pretty great.

Until people start getting you confused.

A teacher calls you by your sibling’s name.

Someone tells you a story that happened to your twin, assuming it happened to you.

Someone meets your sibling first, then meets you and acts like they’ve already figured you out.

After a while, the question starts coming up:

“So… what’s the difference between you two?”

And eventually, you realize something.

Looking alike isn’t the problem.

Being indistinguishable is.

There’s nothing wrong with having similarities. There’s nothing wrong with taking inspiration from what’s around you.

But when everything starts looking, sounding, and feeling the same, individuality becomes harder to recognize.

That matters in marketing.

A business doesn’t need to be the loudest in the room. It doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel. It simply needs to have something that makes people stop and think:

“That’s them.”

A distinct voice.

A recognizable identity.

A perspective that doesn’t sound borrowed.

Because when customers can’t tell you apart from everyone else, they have no reason to remember you instead of them.

Looking alike isn’t the problem.

Being indistinguishable is.

Be recognizable. Be memorable. Be unmistakably you.
